Mission

To advocate, plan, implement, and monitor programs in health, education, employment, and social services which promote longevity, independence, dignity and choice for our senior citizens.
 
Since 2008, DCOA has also operated (with support from the Department of Health Care Finance) the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), a one-stop resource for long-term care information, benefits and assistance for residents age 60 and older and persons with disabilities age 18 and older.

Senior Symposium

Don't Miss This Free Opportunity!

First Annual Older Americans Month Senior Symposium

Registration ends May 23 for the First Annual Older Americans Month Senior Symposium "Never Too Old to Play: Understanding Your Options As A Seasoned Citizen," Friday, May 25, 9 am - 4 pm at the Park Hyatt Washington, 1201 24th Street, NW.  We encourage you to take advantage of this free event for seniors, caregivers, professionals and members of the faith based community.  The symposium will include workshops, exhibitors from government and community based organizations, health and wellness demonstrations and more.  Continental breakfast and lunch will also be provided.  CEUs are also available for social workers for a fee of $15. State Plan on Aging Input

The Office on Aging is completing the District of Columbia State Plan on Aging for Fiscal Years 2013-2015. The District of Columbia is required to submit a State Plan on Aging in order to receive over $6 million in federal dollars under the Older Americans Act. 
 
Your input is still needed, you may still complete a survey to assess programs for the elderly and persons living with disabilities age 18 and older. World Environment Day Expo

Sunday, June 3 - Monday, June 4 10:00 am-6:00 pm

The D.C. Department of the Environment will present the World Environment Day Expo, an event to celebrate clean living and a sustainable future for DC on Sunday, June 3 and Monday June 4, 10 am - 6 pm at Wilson High School, 3950 Chesapeake St. NW. Ms. Senior D.C. Pageant

Ms. Senior D.C. Pageant 2012

Sunday, June 24, 2:30 pm

Witness the selection of Ms. Senior D.C. 2012 as District women age 60 and older compete for the title.  The pageant will be held Sunday, June 24 at 2:30 pm at the University of the District of Columbia, 4200 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Main Auditorium, Building 46.  Contestants will be judged on a personal interview with the judges, their philosophy of life, talent and evening gown presentation.  The donation for tickets is $20, call 202-724-5626 for more information.

TRANSPORTATION FORUM SET FOR JUNE 30

The D.C. Commission on Persons With Disabilities would like your thoughts and ideas on how to make transportation accessible, safe, affordable, flexible and efficient in the District of Columbia.  The commission will host a Transportation Forum on June 30 at 1 pm, Anacostia Neighborhood Library, 1800 Good Hope Rd, SE, Washington, DC 20020.
