Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

After a historically cold winter, I know we are all looking forward to spring, and for good reason: spring in Washington, DC is beautiful. To add to the excitement, the Cherry Blossom Festival is just two weeks away, and yesterday, the National Park Service announced that the predicted peak bloom dates are between March 29 and April 1.

And this weekend, we’ll get a jump-start on enjoying the warmer weather at tomorrow’s HerStory 5K. The HerStory 5K is one of the first events in a full lineup of Women’s HerStory Month events happening across our city.

Womens Herstory Month Events

Since we started the HerStory 5K eight years ago, it’s become a great way to come together as a community, shake off winter, and celebrate the women and girls who keep DC the best city in the world. On-site registration will start at 7:00 a.m., across from Freedom Plaza; the Kids Dash will happen at 9:15 a.m.; and then the 5K will start at 10:00 a.m. If you’re looking for a fun way to start your weekend, come out tomorrow morning and run, walk, jog, or cheer from the sidelines!

Sincerely,

Muriel Bowser

Reminder: DCPS Calendar Updates

DCPS Calendar Updates

DC Public Schools (DCPS) families are reminded that last month, DCPS announced several calendar updates.

Due to weather-related closures in January, several dates were adjusted, and families should ensure they have updated their calendars for next week: Thursday, March 12, which was previously scheduled for parent-teacher conferences, is now a regular instructional day.
