March 6, 2026
Dear Washingtonians,
After a historically cold winter, I know we are all looking forward to spring, and for good reason: spring in Washington, DC is beautiful. To add to the excitement, the Cherry Blossom Festival is just two weeks away, and yesterday, the National Park Service announced that the predicted peak bloom dates are between March 29 and April 1.
And this weekend, we’ll get a jump-start on enjoying the warmer weather at tomorrow’s HerStory 5K. The HerStory 5K is one of the first events in a full lineup of Women’s HerStory Month events happening across our city.
Sincerely,

Registration for spring programming at the Department of Parks and Recreation is now open!
This year's lineup has something for everyone: from lifeguard training to DCPS spring break camps, from boxing to DJing, from toddler sports to senior aquatics. So, check out the spring offerings at DPRprograms.com and register today.
Next Friday, on March 13, the Department of Parks and Recreation is hosting a DC Teen Summit at the Columbia Heights Community Center.
With no school for DCPS students on Friday, March 13, this is an opportunity for teens to get engaged, learn more about leadership opportunities in the city, and have their voices heard on important topics.

DC Public Schools (DCPS) families are reminded that last month, DCPS announced several calendar updates.
Due to weather-related closures in January, several dates were adjusted, and families should ensure they have updated their calendars for next week: Thursday, March 12, which was previously scheduled for parent-teacher conferences, is now a regular instructional day.
