Dear Washingtonians,
Earlier this week, we celebrated the DC small business community and presented our new small business opportunity guide, the DC Green Book. I started the Green Book in 2015 because I would run into entrepreneurs all over the city, and they would tell me what they were working on, what they did, and in some cases, there was a synergy between what their business did and what DC Government was looking for. The Green Book gives businesses insight into what our needs will be at DC Government so that local businesses can be ready to work with us. This year’s Green Book is special in that it offers the first glimpse into how local businesses can get involved with the redevelopment of the RFK campus.
The Green Book is important because it helps us keep DC dollars in DC and also helps create jobs for DC residents – both important for our city’s continued vitality and growth.
And with budget season upon us, growth is top of mind. We know we grow when we have more people living here, more people working here, more people paying taxes here, more people coming to concerts and sporting events here, and when people keep their jobs and also when they’re able to find new jobs. If you have an idea about how we can use the upcoming budget to keep our city growing, we want you to come out to an upcoming Budget Engagement Forum and share it with us. Even if you don’t have an idea, we want you to come out and hear your neighbors’ thoughts and ideas!
We have three forums happening over the next two weeks:
Senior Budget Engagement TeleTownhall
Budget Engagement Forum at Barry Farm Recreation Center
Budget Engagement Forum at Dock 5 in Union Market
The forums are more than an opportunity to share your thoughts on our upcoming budget priorities—they’re also a great place to get together with your neighbors, share ideas, compare notes, and build community. I look forward to seeing you at a forum.

This coming Monday, DC Public Library, the Office of Cable Television, Film, Music and Entertainment, and the Department of Parks and Recreation present Roll Call Vol. 3: Live at the Howard Theatre. Join this free event and celebrate 50 Years of Go-Go, with live performances by Mature Clientele Band, Sirius Company featuring Scooby DaGodSon, Push Play featuring D. Floyd, and DC Vybe featuring D. Holmes—not to mention DJ Remi, and host, Poet Taylor from WPGC 95.5 FM.
