Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

Heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, I’m reflecting on all that we’ve done as a city in just the past week. Together, we:

Each of these celebrations is a reflection of what we can accomplish when we stick together with a relentless commitment to giving every DC resident a fair shot. We can create new opportunities for our young people, take care of our most vulnerable neighbors, celebrate our status as the Sports Capital, and honor our past while building a stronger future. And when I look back at not just the past week, but at the nearly ten years that I've had the honor of being your mayor, there is so much more that we've been able to accomplish. So, this year, I’m grateful to lead a city that sticks together.

As we continue through the holiday season, I challenge each of us to do something for somebody else. Even if it is just an invitation to join your Thanksgiving plans or to go on a walk over the holiday weekend — I know that we all have the ability to share some holiday cheer. So, that’s my challenge: Just think about what you can do to help somebody else’s holiday season be a little bit brighter.

From my family to yours, I wish you a joyful and peaceful Thanksgiving.

With gratitude,

Muriel Bowser
