It's a wonderful time of year to be out and about in the District. You can help make your visit to DC DMV a positive experience by planning ahead and reviewing our Document Verification Guide prior to visiting a service center. The guide will help you determine which documents you need to bring to a DMV Service Center to complete your transaction in one visit.  April is National Donate Life Month and in this month's newsletter, we encourage residents to help save a life by registering to become an organ donor. It's easy, and you can even update your donor status on our mobile app.  Additionally, as more pedestrians are out this time of year, please read our pedestrian safety tips below on how to follow the rules of the road and obey signs and signals.  Coming up on Wednesday, April 24, I will testify before the Committee on Transportation and the Environment in DMV's Budget Oversight Hearing, providing testimony on Mayor Bowser’s Fiscal Year 2025 Budget:  A Fair Shot: Strategic Investments and Shared Sacrifice.  And as a reminder, you can join our DC DMV Live Chat held the first Thursday of each month. Tips for pedestrian safety

There are many different preferences when it comes to transportation, but at one time or another everyone is a pedestrian.

People need and want communities where streets are safe, accessible, and comfortable for all users, including those traveling by car, foot, bike, or mass transit. Streets that are pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly have many benefits, including:

• Safer environments, where you are less likely to be in a traffic collision or get injured.
• Better access to more destinations, providing more choices in how you can get where you want to go without relying on a car.
• More opportunities to be physically active, which can improve your health and overall quality of life.
• Opportunities for everyone, which includes people with disabilities.

Here are eight safety tips for pedestrians:

1. Follow the rules of the road and obey signs and signals.
2. Walk on sidewalks whenever they are available.
3. If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic and as far from traffic as possible.
4. Cross streets at crosswalks or intersections. Look for cars in all directions, including those turning left or right.
5. If a crosswalk or intersection is not available, locate a well-lit area where you have the best view of traffic. Wait for a gap in traffic that allows enough time to cross safely; continue watching for traffic as you cross.
6. Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or backing up in parking lots.
7. Avoid alcohol and drugs even when walking; they impair your abilities and your judgment.
8. Embrace walking as a healthy form of transportation - get up, get out and get moving!

On Thursday, May 16, DC DMV will participate in Mayor Bowser's Spring Into A New Career Hiring Fair at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. DMV will be recruiting for Legal Instrument Examiners. Pre-registration for the hiring fair begins on Friday, April 26.

April is National Donate Life Month

In recognition of National Donate Life Month, DC DMV encourages all District residents to register and become an organ donor. Currently, approximately 4,200 people in the DC metropolitan area are waiting for a lifesaving transplant (out of a total 104,000 individuals in the United States).

DMV releases redesigned DC driver manual 

DC DMV has redesigned and published an improved DC DMV Driver Manual that is easier to navigate with more user-friendly visual features! 

If you are learning to drive, this manual will give you information needed to study for the knowledge test required to obtain a DC DMV driver license and become a safe driver.

If you already have a DC DMV driver license, you can review this manual for new laws or to refresh on rules of the road.
