DC PSC Chairman Betty Ann Kane Appointed to Global Working Group

(Washington, D.C.) Betty Ann Kane, Chairman of the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia, has been appointed by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), to work with regulators from around the globe to improve energy regulation.  She will serve on the Virtual Working Group on Education, Training and Best Practices for The International Confederation of Energy Regulators (ICER).
As a member of the Virtual Working Group on Education, Training and Best Practices, Chairman Kane will be focusing on projects that seek to develop innovative ways to share the best regulatory practices and research for use world-wide, promote research on regulatory issues, and foster training of regulatory experts and professionals.
“I am honored to collaborate with international regulatory leaders to share, develop and implement new ideas to improve energy regulation as well as how to safeguard consumers’ interests,” stated Chairman Kane.  “We are also committed to increasing the understanding and awareness of consumers and policy-makers about our role as energy regulators.”
ICER is a group of 12 regional energy regulatory associations from around the world that offers a mechanism to exchange information and explore regulatory challenges from a global perspective.  NARUC is a founding member of the ICER that was created at the World Forum on Energy Regulation IV in October 2009.  The World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER) was created as a cooperative effort by the world's main regional regulatory associations to provide a forum where energy regulators and other energy market stakeholders may discuss issues and experiences of common interest.  The member regional associations of ICER also are active in the World Forum on Energy Regulation, which is held every three years.
