Employee Monthly Newsletter November 2022 |
|
Message from Director Robinson
Hi Team DMV! Welcome to the Season of Giving! Thank you for reading our November 2022 employee newsletter.
On Wednesday, November 9, we held our DC DMV One Fund Kickoff Celebration. If you missed this event, you can watch it here. Also, congratulations to Kevin Quarles and Eridania Estrella at our Benning Ridge Service Center for winning our raffle drawing. I hope you enjoy your new air fryers!
We all have so much to be thankful for and I hope everyone will pledge generously as we begin our 2022 DC One Fund Campaign. With our goal of $30,000 for 2021, your generous support helped Team DMV raise over $40,000! For this year, I am challenging Team DMV to provide even more support to our neighbors in need and help us meet or exceed our new $40,000 giving goal. While our goal is higher this year, I’m confident we can do it!
To everyone who has already pledged to DC One Fund, thank you for your generosity and for leading by example. For those who would like to pledge, you have the opportunity to support any one of 600 local charities with a minimum pledge of $26. Additionally, you have the opportunity to be a fair share giver by pledging between 1 percent and 3 percent of your annual salary. You can find more information on the DC One Fund website.

|
Lastly, I would like to wish Team DMV and your families a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving holiday.
-Gabriel

The Impact of Giving Thanks
by Coleman Caldwell
To say "thank you" is normal yet remains a highly underused form of appreciation. Most languages have a version of thank you: Spanish, Gracias; French, Merci; German, Danke; Portuguese, Obrigado/a; Italian, grazie; Zulu: Ngiyabonga; and Hindi: धन्यवाद (dhanyavaad). The idea of thankfulness is a universal idea that is expressed in different variations. One of the buzz words that has taken the self-help world by storm is the word “gratitude.” What makes this word so “buzzworthy” is the action it takes and the positivity it makes.

Thanksgiving Side Dish Recipe |

Sweet Potato Casserole
Filling
✅ 1/2 stick butter, melted, plus more for buttering the baking dish ✅ 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed ✅ 1/2 cup milk ✅ 1/4 cup brown sugar ✅ 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract ✅ 1/2 teaspoon salt ✅ 2 large eggs
Topping
✅ 1/2 cup all-purpose flour ✅ 1/2 cup brown sugar ✅ 1/2 stick butter, melted ✅ 1/4 teaspoon salt ✅ 3/4 cup chopped pecans
Cooking Steps
1️ For the sweet potatoes: Add 1 3/4 pounds peeled and cubed sweet potatoes to a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then lower the heat to a simmer and cook until the potatoes are very tender, about 15 to 20 minutes. Drain and cool. Mash the sweet potatoes.
2️⃣ For the filling: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter a 2-quart baking dish.
3️ Whisk together the butter, mashed sweet potatoes, milk, brown sugar, vanilla, salt and eggs in a large bowl. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
4️⃣ For the topping: Combine the flour, brown sugar, butter and salt in a medium bowl until moist and the mixture clumps together. Stir in the pecans. Spread the mixture over the top of the sweet potatoes in an even layer. Bake until mostly set in the center and golden on top, about 25 to 30 minutes.
Serve hot and enjoy!
