Traffic Pattern Change on Massachusetts Avenue NW Waterside Drive NW to 20th Street NW Beginning October 24, 2022
Washington, D.C.) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising all stakeholders to continue to expect lane closures and traffic pattern changes on northbound and southbound Massachusetts Avenue NW beginning October 24 2022;weather permitting. Please see the following information for updated lane closures and traffic pattern changes:
Roadway Resurfacing Final asphalt resurfacing is planned to begin on Monday, October 24, 2022, weather permitting, on Massachusetts Avenue NW from Waterside Drive NW to Sheridan Circle NW. Resurfacing is anticipated to last approximately 10 days and will require intermittent lane closures between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Roadway Reconstruction
Roadway reconstruction is anticipated to begin the week of October 24 for the eastbound lanes of Massachusetts Avenue NW from Sheridan Circle NW to 20th Street NW. There will be one travel lane in each direction on the north half of Massachusetts Avenue NW in order to begin roadway reconstruction on the south half of Massachusetts Avenue NW.
Roadway reconstruction for this segment will occur in 2 phases (Sheridan Circle NW to Q Street NW and Q Street NW to 20th Street NW). Each phase is anticipated to last 2 weeks, weather permitting. Permitted parking areas will be provided for these impacted locations and will be setup on the south half of Massachusetts Avenue NW as follows:
Phase 1 – Parking will be provided from Q Street NW to 20th Street NW while roadway reconstruction is taking place from Sheridan Circle NW to Q Street NW.
Phase 2 – Parking will be provided from Sheridan Circle NW to Q Street NW while roadway reconstruction is taking place from Q Street NW to 20th Street NW.
The team will coordinate directly with impacted stakeholder on parking arrangements.
These lane closures and traffic pattern changes are necessary to complete construction as a part of the Rehabilitation of Massachusetts Avenue NW project. Schedule is subject to change. Updated traffic advisories will be posted in the event of schedule changes and prior to moving to the next phase of roadway and intersection reconstruction.
Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the work zone. All users of the roadway are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and work zones while traveling in this area.
Once complete, the Rehabilitation of Massachusetts Avenue NW project, will include improvements such as sidewalks, streetlights, green infrastructure, and other streetscape elements.
