Washington, D.C.) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising all stakeholders to continue to expect lane closures and traffic pattern changes on northbound and southbound Massachusetts Avenue NW beginning Monday June 13 through June 24 2022, weather permitting.
Please see the following information for updated lane closures and traffic pattern changes:
Roadway Reconstruction
Full-depth roadway reconstruction is currently being completed in phases. The next phase requires 2 of the northbound lanes (closest to the curb) from California Street NW to 24th Street NW to be closed to traffic from June 13 to June 24, weather permitting. While this work is taking place, special parking for residents will be allowed between 24th Street NW and Sheridan Circle NW. Prior parking arrangements have been made with the impacted residents.
Reconstruction of Intersections
The full-depth reconstruction of intersections is also being completed in phases. The current phase requires that NO left-hand turns be allowed traveling northbound or southbound on Massachusetts Avenue NW at the intersections of Waterside Drive NW, Belmont Road NW, and California Street NW through June 10, weather permitting. Construction will continue to occur during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and barriers will be removed at the end of each day to reopen the intersection. Please note that there may be a slight elevation difference in pavement as you travel across these intersections while this work is being completed.
Special Notice The northbound curb lane from Waterside Drive NW to California Street NW will be closed to thru traffic from June 13 to June 24. During this time, only local traffic and buses will be allowed to travel in the curb lane. Prior parking arrangements have been made with the impacted residents.
These lane closures and traffic pattern changes are necessary to complete ongoing roadway reconstruction in the most efficient manner as a part of the Rehabilitation of Massachusetts Avenue NW project (from 20th Street to Waterside Drive NW). Updated traffic advisories will be posted prior to moving to the next phase of roadway and intersection reconstruction.
Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians safely through the work zone. All users of the roadway are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and work zones while traveling in this area.
Once complete, the Rehabilitation of Massachusetts Avenue NW project, will include improvements such as sidewalks, streetlights, green infrastructure, and other streetscape elements.
