Temporary Lane Closures on DC I-295 from May 20 through May 28, 2022
Washington, D.C.) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes on the following roadway for bridge preventative maintenance construction activities beginning May 2o through May 28, 2022, weather permitting.
Operation hours and locations are listed below:
DC I-295 over Nicholson Street Bridge-BR. 1001, Northbound- Two right lane including right shoulder will remain closed on the bridge with two left lanes open for thru traffic. Exit ramps to East and West Pennsylvania Ave will remain open during the daytime. Additional temporary lane closures will be implemented during the hours of 8:00PM to 5:00AM to facilitate bridge resurfacing work; leaving one lane open for trafficHeavy congestion expected during this operation and travelers are advised to seek alternate route. Southbound- Two right lane closures on SB DC-295 including right shoulder on the bridge leaving two left lanes open to traffic during the daytime. Additional one lane closure will be implemented and only one lane will be available for through traffic during night-time for bridge resurfacing work from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am. Heavy congestion expected during this operation and travelers are advised to seek alternate route. Daytime closures will remain 24-hours for the entire week; additional temporary night-time lane closures will be between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am. The anticipated work is expected to occur during the week of May 20th through May 28th. Proper variable message board and traffic control devices will be in place to notify the public of changes.
Traffic controls will be in place to warn drivers approaching the areas. Motorists should anticipate moderate-to-heavy delays due to the lane closures. Drivers are advised to stay alert while traveling through these locations and to be observant of the inspection personnel.
