Temporary Lane Closures on I-295 SB on December 27, 2021

(Washington, D.C.) -The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the right lane of southbound I-295 by Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge beginning today, Monday, December 27, 2021, weather permitting.

The closure will be in place for approximately 2 weeks.

This closure is necessary to install temporary barriers and guardrail removal as part of the initial stages of the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge project.

Once completed, the Douglas Street Pedestrian Bridge project will remove and replace the existing bridge over Kenilworth Avenue, NE (DC-295) and adjacent service roads with a new bridge with increased vertical clearance and ADA compliant ramps, as well as improving the bridge’s structural integrity.
