Arboretum Bridge and Trail Project Drilling Operations in the Anacostia River through December 10, 2021

(Washington, D.C.) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is advising all Anacostia River users that the drilling operations that began on November 15, 2021 in the Anacostia River are anticipated to continue through December 10, 2021. Crews are working during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, weather permitting.

Anacostia River users are advised to be observant of construction equipment while navigating through this area. There will be a barge with a drill rig required to complete this work.

As part of the design of the proposed Arboretum Bridge and Trail, DDOT will be taking soil samples from the bed of the Anacostia River at the planned location of the future bridge. This work is exploratory and is necessary for foundation design. The drilling activity will be completed one sample at a time at each of the 3 locations in the river highlighted in the figure below.
