Trail Work along Arkansas Avenue NW Starting November 8, 20211

(Washington, D.C.) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will close the sidewalk along northbound Arkansas Ave NW between the 16th Street NW and Taylor Street NW beginning November 8, 2021, for  a 3 month period, weather permitting.

During construction, vehicles are will not be permitted to park along the northbound side of Arkansas Avenue between 16th Street NW and Taylor Street NW.

This closure is necessary to construct a new multi-use trail and perform traffic light modifications along Arkansas Avenue NW as part of the Rock Creek Park Multi-Use Trail and Pedestrian Bridge project.

Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to detour pedestrians to the opposite side of Arkansas Avenue and around the work zone. “No Parking” signs will be placed along northbound Arkansas Avenue before construction activities begin.

Once completed, the Rock Creek Park Multi-Use Trail and Pedestrian Bridge project will improve accessibility and connectivity to Rock Creek Park with improvements such as new and reconstructed trails, and a new 110-foot pedestrian bridge south of the Zoo Tunnel.
