Mayor Bowser Awards $12 Million to 91 Nonprofit Organizations Serving District Youth

Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser and Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn announced that 91 nonprofit youth-serving organizations will receive a total of $12.26 million from the Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Office) for Fiscal Year 2022 and School Year 2021-22 programming. More than 9,600 youth in the District will access programming in the subject areas of academics, arts, athletics, dance, cooking, financial literacy, mentoring, music, social emotional support, STEM, and much more as a result of the funds distributed through these grant competitions.

Summer Strong 2022 Grant Competitions Released

The Office of Out of School Time Grants and Youth Outcomes (OST Office), located in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) is currently accepting applications for its Summer Strong 2022 grant competitions.  The Summer Strong 2022 Out of School Time Request for Applications (RFAs) invites high-performing, fiscally responsible, nonprofits that focus on youth development and has a history of success with increasing participants academic knowledge, skills, and behaviors and serve school age children and youth with summer programs to apply. Grant funds may only be used to serve children and youth who reside in the District of Columbia. The deadline to apply is December 6, 2021 at 5:00 pm.

Fiscal Year 2022 Out of School Time Youth Scholarship Request for Applications

The OST Office and Office for Students in the Care of D.C. (SCDC), located in the DME, is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations with a history of supporting scholarship programs to manage the Out of School Time (OST) Youth Scholarship Program. The OST Youth Scholarship Program is a new program with the goal of increasing access to OST programs for students with specific needs. Specifically, the program will support students who may be identified as at-risk. The OST Office seeks one partner to manage the entirety of the scholarship program from application, through selection, and finally the award. The deadline to apply is Monday, November 22, 2021 at 5:00 pm.

The OST Office will host a grant session on Friday, November 5, 2021 from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm to provide an overview and answer questions related to the RFA. All potential applicants are strongly encouraged to attend. Click to join meeting.

Improve staff competencies by hosting a training through The Institute for Youth Development (The Institute). The Institute offers free virtual on-demand workshops to youth development professionals serving District of Columbia youth. A minimum commitment of 10 participants is required to host the workshop; request a training here. Email questions to learn24@dc.gov.

The Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation is accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations that work to improve the lives of DC-area residents, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable and underserved individuals. Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation Grant

The Max and Victoria Dreyfus Foundation will fund nonprofit organizations up to $20,000 in program funding and/or operating funds. Areas of focus include museums, arts and culture, performing arts, education, schools, youth, and more. Applications must be received by Wednesday November 10, 2021 to be considered. AMS Epsilon Fund Grants for Young Scholars Programs

The AMS Epsilon Fund awards grants of up to $15,000 in support of summer mathematics programs for mathematically talented high school students. The goal of the program is to aid and promote programs that support and nurture mathematically talented youth in the United States. Applications must be received by Wednesday December 15, 2021 to be considered. Find out more information regarding eligibility criteria and focus areas here.

2022 Youth Garden Grant

KidsGardening has supported school and youth educational garden projects that enhance the quality of life for students and their communities since 1982. The 2022 Youth Garden Grant will award 50 nonprofit organizations, public or private schools, or youth programs that are expanding or planning a new garden program. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, December 17, 2021. More information about the application process can be found here.
