The OST Office is seeking grant application reviewers. Individuals with expertise or background in youth development are strongly encouraged to volunteer. Current grantees and applicants are eligible to volunteer. Interested individuals should complete this brief interest form.
A recent blog article from Youth-Nex, highlights warning signs and what can be done to support youth in crisis. According to the Center for Disease Control, suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 10-19. This article highlights some key indicators, warning signs, and potential next steps to support someone. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800-273-8255) and the Crisis Text Line (741741) are national resources that are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and have trained counselors available.
The Capitol Hill Community Foundation will award one grant of $25,000 to support new initiatives, or programmatic expansions, that can make significant contributions to the life of the Capitol Hill community. Focus areas for this grant competition include schools and teachers; youth programming; social service programs; and neighborhood beautification and community building. The American Association of University Women is offering grant assistance to community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs or non-degree research projects that promote education and equity for women and girls. Grant awards range from $3,000 to $10,000. Applications must be received by Wednesday, December 1, 2021. The Venable Foundation, Inc. was established to promote the health and well-being of the communities in the Washington, D.C. area. The Venable Foundation’s current funding priorities include Human Services, Legal Services, Education, Workforce Development, Youth Impact, Health, Environment, and Arts and Culture. The Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation is currently accepting applications for the New Era Women Writers Program to inspire women and girls to learn to write or support improving their current abilities. The Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation supports programs that will provide women and girls with the knowledge and skills to express themselves through the art of writing and to encourage higher levels of training designed to assist women in delivering clear and persuasive arguments for change and equality. Grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded to local non-profit, tax-exempt public charities, accredited schools, universities, government agencies, or public agencies. Grant applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. Prospective applications must submit a letter of inquiry before applying.
