September 10, 2021
Dear Washingtonians,
Three years ago, we convened the first National Maternal and Infant Health Summit at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Every September since then, elected leaders, health officials, and families from across the nation have come together - both in person and virtually - to continue important conversations around infant and maternal healthcare before, during, and after birth.
Next week, we will come together once again to reflect on the progress made since that first meeting and to look toward the future of perinatal health and wellness. You can join us on Wednesday, September 15 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center as we discuss best practices and innovative ideas for supporting families and babies. This year, we’ll highlight expansive birth options, pathways to parenting, the need for respectful and anti-racist maternal care, and so much more.

Sincerely,
Walk with Mayor Bowser and neighbors in the Fiesta DC Parade of Nations this Sunday, September 12. The parade kicks off at 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Constitution Avenue and 7th Street NW.

DC students and families are reminded that all vaccinated District youth ages 12-17 will be eligible to win a $25,000 college scholarship or an iPad with a pair of Beats headphones.
As part of the Take the Shot, Youth DC Giveaway, eight students will be selected as potential winners of a $25,000 scholarship through the establishment of a new 529 DC College Savings Plan account, and 32 students will be selected as potential winners of a new iPad and headphones.
The District will award prizes in four batches that students will be randomly sorted into. A student is eligible to win if they have received at least one of the two required COVID-19 vaccination shots. Once student names are drawn, a District representative will reach out to the family to confirm the student’s vaccination status.
More information on the Take the Shot, DC Youth Vaccine Giveaway can be found at coronavirus.dc.gov/incentives.
