Temporary Closure of Beach Drive NW on September 11, 2021

(Washington, D.C.) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close Beach Drive NW between the Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway NW and Tilden Street NW between the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, September 11, 2021, weather permitting.

This temporary closure is necessary to construct the new pedestrian bridge and multi-use trail on Beach Drive over Rock Creek as part of the Rock Creek Park Multi-Use Trail and Pedestrian Bridge project.

Traffic controls, including signage, will be in place to detour traffic around the work zone. Northbound Beach Drive NW vehicular traffic travlling past Edgewater Stables will be detoured left onto Shoreham Drive NW. Southbound Beach Drive NW vehicular traffic travelling past National Zoo Drive NW will be detoured right onto Tilden Street NW. Beach Drive NW Southbound will remain open to local traffic to National Zoo Drive NW, Piney Branch Parkway NW, and Porter Street NW.

Flaggers will be available to manage trail users around the work zone on Beach Drive. Drivers are advised to stay alert while traveling around this work location.

Once completed, the Rock Creek Park Multi-Use Trail and Pedestrian Bridge project will improve accessibility and connectivity to Rock Creek Park with improvements such as new and reconstructed trails, and a new 110-foot pedestrian bridge south of the Zoo Tunnel.
