Temporary Road Closure for Canal Road NW Corridor Annual Coordinated Improvements from August 14 through August 15, 2021

 

 

(Washington, D.C.) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT), in conjunction with the National Park Service, PEPCO, DC Water, and Department of Public Works will temporarily close the entire stretch of Canal Road NW from Chain Bridge Road to M Street NW to perform the following improvements: removal of dirt/debris from the roadside, clearing of storm drains, cutting back all wooded brush and vegetation overgrowth, overhead streetlight repairs, overhead electrical line repairs, replacement of directional signage and refurbishment of lane markings.   

 

Work is scheduled to take place starting Saturday, August 14 through Sunday, August 15, 2021, from 6am to 7pm each day.   These closure dates and times are contingent on suitable weather. 

 

Detours will be posted safely redirecting traffic westbound on the Clara Barton Parkway from Canal Road NW and northbound to MacArthur Boulevard NW at various community intersections. Noted detours will be posted at:

  • Chain Bridge Road NW; Arizona Avenue NW; Reservoir Road NW; Dorsett Place NW; Carolina Place NW; Potomac Avenue NW

Motorists should expect delays due to the full road closure and are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and road work crews while traveling in this area.
