Temporary Lane Closures on Suitland Parkway, South Capitol Street SE, and Westbound Howard Road SE on Weeknights & Weekend from July 15 through July 19, 2021

                   

(Washington, DC) —The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close Northbound South Capitol Street SE between Firth Sterling Avenue SE and Suitland Parkway from 6:00 p.m. beginning on July 15 to 5:00 a.m. July 16 2021, weather permitting as shown in the graphic below.

 

Pedestrians traveling along South Capitol Street SE between the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge and Firth Sterling Avenue SE will be detoured via Firth Sterling Avenue SE and Howard Road SE from 9:30 p.m. on July 15 through 5:00 a.m. July 19.

 

Eastbound Suitland Parkway between South Capitol Street SE and Firth Sterling Avenue SE will be closed from 9:00 p.m. July 15 to 5:00 a.m. July 19.  Westbound Suitland Parkway between South Capitol Street SE and Firth Sterling Avenue SE will be closed from 9:30 a.m. July 16 to 5:00 a.m. July 19, as shown in the graphic.

 

Westbound Howard Road SE will be closed from west of the WMATA Parking garage to South Capitol Street SE from July 15 to 5:00 a.m. on July 19, 2021 as shown in the graphic.  Access to and from the WMATA parking garage will be continuously maintained from Howard Road SE via Firth Sterling Avenue SE. Pedestrian access from the WMATA parking garage to downtown Washington DC via Howard Road SE and South Capitol Street SE will be open.

 

Travelers heading to downtown Washington DC or visiting Nationals Park are strongly encouraged to use public transit.

 

A marked detour will be in place during these closures. Please observe the posted speed limit and proceed through the construction area with caution. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to stay alert and follow signage when traveling through this area. These closures are necessary for construction activities associated with the South Capitol Street Corridor Project which includes construction of the New Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge and the reconstruction of the I-295/ Suitland Parkway interchange.
