DDOT TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Temporary Lane Closures for I-395 Sign Structure Improvement Project from June 21 through June 25, 2021                        

 

(Washington, DC)—The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes, ramps and shoulders on the following roadways to perform construction activities along I-395 and I-695 for the replacement of signage and sign structures. Work is scheduled to take place starting Monday, June 21 through Friday, June 25, 2021.

 

These closure dates and times are contingent on suitable weather, field conditions, and/or adjacent construction activities. 

 

The following are the lane and shoulder closures that will be in place during the following days and time-periods.

Weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:

• Single Right Lane Closure on I-395 Northbound between 12^th Street Expressway and 7^th Street SW.

Weeknights from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following morning:

• Triple Right Lane Closure on I-395 Northbound between Maine Avenue SW and Center Leg Freeway.
• Full closure of the ramp from 9^th Street Expressway to I-395 Northbound/I-695 Eastbound.
• Full closure of the ramp from 7^th Street SW to I-395 Northbound/I-695 Eastbound.

 

For the closures of the ramps from 7^th Street SW and the 9^th Street Expressway to I-395 Northbound, vehicles will be detoured via Maine Avenue SW, M Street SW, South Capitol Street, and Washington Avenue SW.

These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT project:

 

Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project

The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor; and on New York Avenue NE, east of Bladensburg Road NE. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting on I-3between the 12^th Street Expressway and D Street SW.

 

Traffic controls will be in place to guide all users of the roadway through the work zones safely. Motorists should expect delays due to the lane closures and are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and road work crews while traveling in this area.
