Temporary Lane Closures on Suitland Parkway, Howard Road SE, and Northbound I-295 Traffic Shift from June 7 through June 14, 2021

(Washington, DC)—The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close westbound Suitland Parkway between Firth Sterling Avenue SE and South Capitol Street SE/SW weeknights from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am the next morning from June 7 to June 11, 2021, as shown in the graphic.

Howard Road SE between the WMATA Parking garage and Firth Sterling Avenue SE will be closed on the weekend from 8:00 pm on June 11 to 5:00 am on June 14, 2021, as shown in the graphic.

Three lanes of traffic on northbound I-295 will shift to the left onto the new structure starting at Firth Sterling Avenue SE overpass, then will transition back to the existing alignment prior to Exit 5. Lane closures will occur on northbound I-295 starting at 8:00 pm on Wednesday June 9, 2021, and extending to 5:00 am the next morning. The traffic shift will allow for construction to progress on the right section of the roadway and bridge structures.

A marked detour will be in place during these closures. These closures are necessary for construction activities associated with the South Capitol Street Corridor Project, which includes construction of the New Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge and the reconstruction of the I-295/ Suitland Parkway interchange.

Please observe the posted speed limit and proceed through the construction area with caution. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to stay alert and follow signage when traveling through this area.
