Temporary Lane Closures on I-295 Northbound and Southbound  from Monday, May 3 through Sunday, May 9, 2021

(Washington, DC) -- The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will inspect overhead sign structures on I-295 within the District of Columbia. During this work, DDOT will implement daytime lane and shoulder closures and impact traffic along I-295.

The following single/multi-lane and shoulder closures will be in place during off-peak hours beginning 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday, May 3, 2021 through Sunday, May 9, 2021:

  • Left and right lane and shoulder closures for northbound and southbound lanes of I-295 between Chesapeake Street and the Maryland-DC border

These overhead signs structures are a key component to maintaining and upgrading DDOT’s traffic management system that will help improve transportation safety, mitigate traffic congestion, and propel DDOT to employ advanced smart city technologies. This phase includes inspection of two existing Dynamic Message Sign (DMS) structures on I-295 south of Suitland Parkway.

Traffic controls will be in place to warn drivers approaching the areas. Motorists should anticipate moderate delays due to the lane closures. Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be aware of inspection personnel working in the area.

All inspection related work and dates are subject to change, depending on weather, equipment availability or other unforeseen conditions.
