One of our members remains hospitalized today after contracting COVID-19 earlier this month. A second member was released from the hospital yesterday, where he was treated for several days before getting well enough to return home.
At least seven of our previously infected members continue to have long-term health impacts from the virus.
We are hopeful and remain optimistic that all these members will soon make a full recovery.
But this should serve as a reality check to all of us that COVID-19 is real and remains a serious health concern to all of us.
There have been nearly 30 members who became seriously ill with significant respiratory symptoms or hospitalized after contracting COVID-19.
To date, 417 members have tested positive for COVID-19 since the first member contracted the virus in March 2020. There have been 171 total reported Fire and EMS COVID-19 related fatalities across the country according to The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
Of the nearly 1,200 members in our Department who have received the vaccine, two were seen briefly in the emergency department, but none has developed a serious reaction.
Please listen to your peers in the following videos and get vaccinated – for you, your family, your co-workers and the patients who you care for on the job.
