Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

We need more hands on board — more volunteers to knock on doors and help neighbors make a plan to get vaccinated.

Already, we have seen the power of our community working together to connect people to the vaccines. Through our Faith in the Vaccine program, over 3,000 members of our community have been vaccinated. Our Senior Vaccine Buddies have knocked on thousands of doors and made thousands of follow up calls to help seniors book and get to vaccination appointments.

Now it's your turn.

Sign up to join us on Saturday, May 1. We have three start times for canvassing: 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m.

Summer is just around the corner, and I know we are all eager to return to a better normal and spend more time having fun with family and friends.

This is our shot to end this, DC. Let's take it.

RSVP for the Day of Action at bit.ly/dayofactiondc, and then recruit three friends to join you.

Sincerely,

Muriel Bowser

Free At-Home COVID-19 Tests

Test Yourself

This week, Mayor Bowser and DC Health launched Test Yourself DC, a program offering free at-home COVID-19 testing kits at locations across the District. The program offers the option to either take a COVID-19 test onsite at one of the 16 DC Library locations or to take the test home and return the sample to a drop box.

Between April 19-30, testing kits locations will be open for pickups Monday through Friday, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Starting the week of May 3, the locations will be open for pickups Monday through Saturday, between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Testing kits can be dropped off daily by 8:00 p.m.

Learn more and find pickup and drop off locations at testyourself.dc.gov.

Tomorrow: DCPS Enrollment Saturday

Enrollment Saturday

In the fall, DC's public schools will open five days a week for in-person learning. Now is the time to make sure your child is enrolled for next school year.

This Saturday, April 24, is Enrollment Saturday at DCPS — an opportunity for families to complete enrollment for next school year in person, at your child's school, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The DCPS Enrollment Team will also be available outside of Central Office (1200 First Street, NE) to support families with enrollment. Some schools have extended hours or are co-locating with other schools.

Ticket Amnesty Program

Ticket Amnesty

This week, Mayor Bowser announced a four-month amnesty program giving drivers the opportunity to pay outstanding tickets for parking, photo enforcement (including speed, red-light, and stop sign), and minor moving violations. Drivers eligible for the amnesty program are still obligated to pay the original ticket amount; however, any penalties will be waived.

The amnesty program will run from June 1, 2021 to September 30, 2021, and includes tickets issued before September 30, 2021.

This program is launching as the District plans to restart on June 1 several government functions — such as all parking enforcement, towing of illegally parked vehicles, and requirements to renew vehicle registrations and inspections — that had been suspended during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
