(Washington, DC)—The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has temporarily closed 44th Street NW from Forest Lane NW to Edmunds Street NW for safety reasons because of a culvert and roadway collapse.
DDOT has completed detail engineering assessments of the damaged the roadway has sustained as a result of the collapse of the culvert that was in place underneath this roadway. The team is now in the process of finalizing the design required to conduct all repairs, which includes identifying all resources needed to make lasting repairs to this failed roadway.
DDOT's goal is to have the design and resource identification completed by the second week of June 2021, at which time construction can begin in earnest. Completion of construction is estimated at this time to be December 31, 2021. The photo below shows the level of damage the roadway has sustained.
