Nightly Full Closures of I-395 Southbound / I-695 Westbound for Interstate Sign Replacement Project from March 1 through March 12, 2021

(Washington, DC)—The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily stop all traffic on weeknights along I-395 Southbound / I-695 Westbound just prior to Exit 5 (6th Street SW/7th Street SW) from Monday March 1, 2021 through Thursday March 12, 2021, from 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM the following morning; weather permitting.

The work zone set-up will include reducing southbound/westbound traffic down to one lane, followed by intermittent 30-minute full stoppages between the Center Leg Freeway and the 6th Street SW/7th Street SW ramp.

The full stoppage taking place on Friday night, March 5 and Friday night, March 12 2021, will start at 8:00 p.m. and end by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

During the above closure, the ramp from the 9th Street Expressway to I-395 Northbound will be closed. A marked detour will be in place.

I-395 Southbound Closure, Ramp Closures, & Proposed Detours

1

Due to the dynamic nature of construction projects, the start of these lane, ramp and shoulder closures may be delayed or postponed based on weather, field conditions, and/or other construction activities. These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT project:

Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project

The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting between the 12th Street Expressway and D Street, SW.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate considerable delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
