DDOT TRAFFIC ADVISORY: I-395 Sign Structure Improvement Project Temporary Lane Closures on Saturday, February 20, 2021

I-395 Sign Structure Improvement Project Temporary Lane Closures on Saturday, February 20, 2021

(Washington, DC)—The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes, ramps, and shoulders on the following roadways to perform construction activities along I-395 and I-695 for the replacement of signage and sign structures. Work is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The start of closures is contingent on suitable weather, field conditions, and/or adjacent construction activities. Notable delays should be expected around the project areas and motorists are advised to use alternative routes, if possible.

The following are the lane and shoulder closures that will be in place:

Single Right Lane Closure on ramp from I-695 Westbound to northbound Center Leg Freeway.
Single Right or Left (not both) Lane Closure I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound between 7^th Street SW and the Center Leg Freeway.
Single Left Lane Closure on Center Leg Freeway Southbound south of the 3^rd Street Tunnel.

The following are the ramp closures that will be in place along with the lane/shoulder closures (refer to detour routes):

Full closure of ramp from C Street SW to I-695 Eastbound.
Full closure of ramp from Washington Ave SW to I-695 Eastbound.
Full closure of ramp from I-395 Northbound to C Street SW.
Full closure of ramp from 7^th Street SW to I-395 Northbound.

For the C Street and Washington Ave ramp closures, vehicles will be detoured using Independence Avenue SW, 9^th Street Expressway, and I-395 Northbound as indicated in the map below. If access to Independence Avenue is prohibited, then vehicles will be detoured using 2^nd Street SW, I-395 Southbound, and I-395 Northbound.

Detour: C Street SW and Washington Ave SW Ramps to I-695 Eastbound

For the closure of the C Street ramp from I-395 Northbound, vehicles will be detoured using I-695 Eastbound, the South Capitol Street SE/SW U-turn at M Street SE, and Washington Avenue SW as indicated in the map below.

Detour: I-395 Northbound Ramp to C Street SW

For the 7^th Street ramp closure, vehicles will be detoured using 7^th Street SW, Maine Avenue SW, M Street SW, South Capitol Street SE/SW, and Washington Avenue SW as indicated in the map below.

Detour: 7th Street SW Ramp to I-395 NB/I-695 EB

These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT project:

Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project

The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor-wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting between the 12^th Street Expressway and D Street, SW.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
