Temporary Closures for I-395 Sign Structure Improvement Project from February 13 through February 19, 2021

(Washington, DC)—The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes, ramps and shoulders on the following roadways to perform construction activities along I-395 for the replacement of signage and sign structures. The start of closures will occur during off-peak periods and is contingent on suitable weather, field conditions, and/or adjacent construction activities beginning February 13^th 2021

The following lane, ramp and shoulder closures will be in place daily and nightly:

Single Right Lane Closure on ramp from I-695 Westbound to Center Leg Freeway.
Single Right Lane Closure I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound between 7^th Street SW and the Center Leg Freeway.
Single Left Lane Closure on ramp from I-395 Northbound to Center Leg Freeway.
Single Left Lane Closure on Center Leg Freeway Southbound.
Double Left Lane Closure on I-395 Southbound between Center Leg Freeway and Maine Avenue SW.
Double Right Lane Closure on I-395 Northbound between 12^th Street Expressway and Center Leg Freeway.
Full closure of ramp from C Street SW to I-695 Eastbound.
Full closure of ramp from Washington Ave SW to I-695 Eastbound.
Full closure of ramp from I-395 Northbound to C Street SW.
Full closure of ramp from 7^th Street SW to I-395 Northbound.
Full closure of ramp from I-395 Northbound to Center Leg Freeway.
Full closure of ramp from 9^th Street Expressway to I-395 Northbound/I-695 Eastbound.

For the C Street and Washington Ave ramp closures, vehicles will be detoured using Independence Avenue SW, 9^th Street Expressway, and I-395 Northbound as indicated in the map below. If access to Independence Avenue is prohibited, then vehicles will be detoured using 2^nd Street SW, I-395 Southbound, and I-395 Northbound. Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.

Detour: C Street SW and Washington Ave SW Ramps to I-695 Eastbound

Detour: I-395 Northbound Ramp to C Street SW

For the 9^th Street Expressway ramp closure, vehicles will be detoured using D Street SW, Maine Avenue SW, and 7^th Street SW as indicated in the map below. Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.

Detour: 9^th Street Expressway Ramp to I-395 Northbound/I-695 Eastbound

For the 7^th Street ramp closure, vehicles will be detoured using 7^th Street SW, Maine Avenue SW, M Street SW, South Capitol Street, and Washington Avenue SW as indicated in the map below.

For the Center Leg Freeway ramp closure, vehicles will be detoured using I-695 Eastbound, 11^th Street SW, and I-695 Westbound. Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.

Detour: 7th Street SW Ramp to I-395 NB/I-695 EB

Detour: I-395 Northbound Ramp to Center Leg Freeway

These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT project:

Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project

The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor-wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting between the 12^th Street Expressway and D Street, SW.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
