Temporary Lane. Ramp, and Shoulder Closures Along I-395 for Sign Structure Replacement Project Begin January 4

(Washington, DC)—The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes, ramps and shoulders on the following roadways to perform construction activities along I-395 for sign structure replacements.

The following lane, ramp and shoulder closures will be in place between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. and between 8:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., from Monday, January 4 through Friday, January 8, 2021, weather permitting: 

Ramps

  • Single Right Lane Closure on ramp from I-695 Westbound to Center Leg Freeway.

I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound

  • Single Right Lane Closure between 7th Street SW and the Center Leg Freeway.

The following lane, ramp and shoulder closures will be in place nightly from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, from Monday, January 4 through Friday, January 8, 2021 weather permitting: 

 

Ramps

  • Full closure of ramp from I-395 Northbound to Center Leg Freeway.
  • Full closure of ramp from 7th Street SW to I-365 Northbound.

The 7th Street ramp closure, will require vehicles to detour to 7th Street SW, Maine Avenue SW, M Street SW, South Capitol Street, and Washington Avenue SW as indicated in the map below.

The Center Leg Freeway ramp closure, will require vehicles to detour to I-695 eastbound, 11th Street SW, and I-695 westbound.  The ramp closure will create expect significant delays in the area. Motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.

 

These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT projects:

Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project

The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting between the 12th Street Expressway and D Street, SW.

Traffic controls will be in place to guide all users of the roadway through the work zone safely. Motorists should expect delays due to the lane closures and are advised to stay
