Building and Innovation Design Assistance | Announcing the Net-Zero Energy Grant Program
Recently, the Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) released a Request for Applications (RFA) for its Building Innovation Design Assistance Grant Program, which will fund early design assistance for a small number of building projects committed to pursuing net-zero energy (NZE), and to fund embodied carbon analysis in building projects.
This grant program is a cooperative effort between DCRA and DOEE to support Green Building Fund initiatives, has a total of $85,000 available and will fund multiple projects. Applicants can apply for up to $20,000 for NZE Design Assistance and/or up to $10,000 for Embodied Carbon Life Cycle Analysis Assistance. The deadline for application submission is January 11, 2021. For more information, please visit DOEE’s website.
Staying in and Staying Safe in Your Home This Winter
It is winter and temperatures have dropped dramatically. There’s one thing we all need – heat in our homes. In the District, the minimum temperature that must be maintained is 68º F in all habitable rooms. Check out the District’s heating regulations for more information.
Scheduling Housing Inspections for Tenants
Are you having a maintenance issue in your home? Do you question if your property meets current housing codes? After reporting your concern to your landlord, if you still need assistance, use our Housing Inspection and Property Maintenance Request Form to schedule an inspection.
Tenant Rights Resources
Having trouble? The Office of Tenant Advocate (OTA) may be able to assist you. OTA provides technical advice and other legal services to tenants regarding disputes with landlords and advocates for the rights and interests of District renters in a legislative, regulatory, and judicial capacity. Should it come to it, OTA also provides financial assistance to displaced tenants for certain emergency housing and tenant relocation expenses.
COVID-19 Housing Assistance
For tenants, OTA has put together a COVID-19 State of Emergency: Tenant Rights and Resources handout to help District renters understand their rights and available resources during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency—currently extended until March 31, 2021 — declared by Mayor Muriel Bowser.
For landlords, the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has developed the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program (CHAP), a $10.2 million program funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), to provide rental assistance to low-income renters who are in arrears due to the impact of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
