Temporary Lane Closures for South Capitol Street Bridge and I-295 Projects 

 

(Washington, DC) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close single lanes and shoulders on the following roadways to perform construction activities along the I-295/DC 295 corridor. 

 

The following closures will be in place daily from Monday, December 28 until Thursday, December 31, 2020 weather permitting:

 

I-295 Northbound: Laboratory Road / US Naval Research Lab (Exit 1) to Suitland Parkway / JBAB (Exit 3A)

  • Single left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 6:00pm to 5:00am from December 28th to December 30th
  • Left or right shoulder closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 9:00am to 4:00pm from December 29th to December 30th
  • Left or right shoulder closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 12:00pm to 4:00pm on December 28th
  • Left or right shoulder closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 9:00am to 12:00pm on December 31st
  • Single left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 9:00am to 4:00am from December 29th to December 30th
  • Single left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 12:00pm to 4:00am on December 28th
  • Single left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 12:00pm to 4:00am on December 31st
  • Single left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 9:00am to 12:00pm from December 24th to December 24th

I-295 Southbound: Suitland Parkway / JBAB (Exit 3A) to Laboratory Road / US Naval Research Lab (Exit 1)

  • Single left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 8:00pm to 5:00am from December 28th to December 30th
  • Left or right shoulder closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 9:00am to 4:00pm from December 29th to December 30th
  • Left or right shoulder closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 12:00pm to 4:00pm on December 28th
  • Left or right shoulder closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 9:00am to 12:00pm on December 31st
  • Single left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 7:00am to 4:00pm from December 29th to December 30th
  • Single left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 12:00pm to 4:00pm on December 28th
  • Single left or right lane closure between Exits 1-3 starting at 7:00am to 12:00pm on December 31st

  • Full ramp closure on I-295 northbound on-ramp from MLK Jr. Ave SE to I-295 northbound starting at 6:00am to 6:00am (continuous) from December 29th to December 30th
  • Full ramp closure on I-295 northbound on-ramp from MLK Jr. Ave SE to I-295 northbound starting at 12:00pm to 6:00am on December 28th
  • Full ramp closure on I-295 northbound on-ramp from MLK Jr. Ave SE to I-295 northbound starting at 6:00am to 12:00pm on December 31st
  • Single right lane closure on St. Elizabeth’s Ave SE from Gate 4 to Fifth Sterling Ave SE starting at 8:30am to 3:00pm from December 29th to December 30th
  • Single right lane closure on St. Elizabeth’s Ave SE from Gate 4 to Fifth Sterling Ave SE starting at 12:00pm to 3:00pm on December 28th  
  • Single right lane closure on St. Elizabeth’s Ave SE from Gate 4 to Fifth Sterling Ave SE starting at 8:30am to 12:00pm on December 31st

  • Single right lane closure on South Capitol Street SE northbound from Exit 2 (SB) to DC Streetcar Charge Station starting at 6:00am to 5:00pm from December 29th to December 30th  
  • Single right lane closure on South Capitol Street SE northbound from Exit 2 (SB) to DC Streetcar Charge Station starting at 12:00pm to 5:00pm on December 28th
  • Single right lane closure on South Capitol Street SE northbound from Exit 2 (SB) to DC Streetcar Charge Station starting at 6:00am to 12:00pm on December 31st

 

These closures are required for pavement work, guardrail installation and equipment mobilization associated with multiple DDOT projects aimed at improving the I-295/DC 295 corridor.
