Temporary Lane Closures for Interstate 395 Sign Structure Replacements
(Washington, DC) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes and shoulders on the following roadways to perform construction activities along I-395 for sign structure replacements.
The following lane and shoulder closures will be in place overnight from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, Monday, November 2nd through Friday, November 6th, 2020 weather permitting.
I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound
Double left lane closure between 12th Street SW Expressway ramp and 7th Street
Triple left lane closure between 12th Street SW Expressway and Center Leg Freeway
Triple right lane closure between 12th Street SW Expressway and Center Leg Freeway
Ramps
Full closure of ramp from Maine Avenue SW to I-395 Northbound
Full closure of ramp from 9th Street SW Expressway to I-395 Northbound
Full closure of ramp from 7th Street SW to I-395 Northbound
For the double left lane closure on I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound, the District Department of Transportation will temporarily close the ramp from Maine Avenue SW to I-395 Northbound to perform construction activities along I-395 for sign replacements during the week of November 2nd, 2020. These closures and detours will take place overnight from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Vehicles will be detoured using Maine Avenue SW and 7th Street SW as indicated in the map below. Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.
Detour: Maine Avenue to I-395 NB
Double left lane closure on I-395 Northbound
For the triple left lane closure on I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound, the District Department of Transportation will temporarily close the ramps from Maine Avenue SW and the 9th Street Expressway to I-395 Northbound to perform construction activities along I-395 for sign replacements during the week of November 2nd, 2020. These closures and detours will take place overnight from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Vehicles will be detoured using 12th Street SW, Maine Avenue SW and 7th Street SW as indicated in the map below. Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.
Detour: Maine Avenue and 9th Street Expwy to I-395 NB
Triple left lane closure on I-395 Northbound
For the triple right lane closure on I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound, the District Department of Transportation will temporarily close the ramps from the 9th Street Expressway and 7th Street SW to I-395 Northbound to perform construction activities along I-395 for sign replacements during the week of November 2nd, 2020. These closures and detours will take place overnight from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.
Vehicles will be detoured using Maine Avenue SW, M Street SW, South Capitol Street, 7th Street SW and Independence Avenue SW as indicated in the map below. Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.
Detour: 9th Street Expwy and 7th Street SW to I-395 NB

These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT projects:
Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project
The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting between the 12th Street Expressway and D Street, SW.
Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
