Temporary Lane Shifts on South Capitol Street SE/SW, Potomac Avenue SW, and O Street SW
(Washington, DC) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily shift and repurpose lanes of South Capitol St., SW, Potomac Ave., SW, and O St., SW on or about October 24, 2020, weather permitting; as shown in the following graphic.
The southbound right lane on South Capitol St., SW prior to O St., SW will now be a designated “RIGHT TURN ONLY”. The two left lanes will continue southbound to the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge (FDMB) and other areas. Truck traffic traveling southbound on South Capitol St., SW to Buzzard Point, Fort McNair, Audi Field and other adjacent areas should access these areas via Potomac Avenue, SW.
For drivers on northbound South Capitol St., SE, the three travel lanes will shift to the left through the intersection with Potomac Avenue SE.
This closure is a result of the reconstruction of the I-295/ Suitland Parkway interchange associated with the South Capitol Street Corridor Project which includes construction of the New Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge.
