Temporary Road Closure of Howard Road SE under I-295 on October 19 through October 26, 2020
(Washington, DC) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close Howard Road SE between the WMATA Parking garage and Firth Sterling Avenue, SE nightly from Monday, October 19, 2020 through Monday October 26, 2020, from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am weather permitting; on the following morning.
This closure will also continue on Saturday, October 24, 2020, from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm. In the event of inclement weather, additional construction needs, or other unforeseen delays work will continue through Sunday, October 25, 2020.
This closure is necessary for bridge reconstruction, as shown in the below graphic. A marked detour will be in place during the closure.
This closure is a result of the reconstruction of the I-295/ Howard Road, SE interchange, and necessary for construction activities associated with the South Capitol Street Corridor Project which includes construction of the New Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge.
Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to stay alert and follow signage when traveling through this area.
