DDOT Traffic Advisory: Temporary Full Closure of I-395 Northbound Ramp to Center Leg Freeway on September 29, 2020 through October 1, 2020

Temporary Full Closure of I-395 Northbound Ramp to Center Leg Freeway on September 29, 2020 through October 1, 2020 

(Washington, DC) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close the ramp from 7^th Street SW to I-395 Northbound and I-695 Eastbound, and the ramp from I-395 Northbound to the Center Leg Freeway to perform construction activities along I-395 for future sign structure replacements from September 29^th through October 1^st, 2020. These closures and detours will take place overnight from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Due to the dynamic nature of construction projects, the start of these lane, ramp and shoulder closures may be delayed or postponed based on weather, field conditions, and/or other construction activities.

For the 7^th Street ramp closure, vehicles will be detoured using 7^th Street SW, Maine Avenue SW, M Street SW, South Capitol Street, and Washington Avenue SW as indicated in the map below. For the Center Leg Freeway ramp closure, vehicles will be detoured using I-695 Eastbound, 11^th Street SW, and I-695 Westbound.  Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.

Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project

The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting between the 12^th Street Expressway and D Street, SW.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
