Temporary Lane and Ramp Closures on I-395

(Washington, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close two left lanes on I-395 southbound and a single left lane on I-395 northbound to perform construction activities along I-395 for future sign structure replacements.

The work area will be on I-395 northbound and southbound between the 9th Street and 4th Street Expressways on July 30th and July 31st, 2020. In conjunction with these closures, DDOT will also close the ramp from the 9th Street Expressway to I-395 northbound. These closures and detours will take place overnight from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Vehicles will be detoured for the ramp closure using D Street SW, 7th Street SW, 9th Street SW, and Maine Avenue SW, as indicated in the map below. Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.

These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT projects:

Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project

The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting between the 12th Street Expressway and D Street, SW.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
