Dear Washingtonians,
This week, we had some weather-related closures of the public testing sites and we expect over the next week that we might have a few more. As we continue through this public health emergency, and as sites continue to be affected by the weather, I want to emphasize an important point about testing:
If you think you may have COVID-19 or think you were exposed to the virus, the first thing you should do is call your doctor or a community-based clinic or health care provider. The best place to get tested for COVID-19 is through a health care provider who can talk to you about your symptoms, health, and future care. If you are unable to get tested through your doctor or at a community-based clinic, then you should go to a public testing site. Then, regardless of where you were tested, you should stay home while you wait for your results.
As the virus continues to circulate in our community, we all have a responsibility to do everything we can to avoid getting infected and to avoid infecting other people. Choose your activities wisely. Wear a mask—even when around small groups of friends and family who are not part of your household. Wash your hands frequently and practice good hygiene. And continue to social distance when you are around other people—even when you are wearing a mask.
And, remember, you can find more tips and guidance for keeping yourself, your family, and our community safe at coronavirus.dc.gov/phasetwo
Sincerely,

On Thursday, Mayor Bowser and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced the completion of the iconic arches on the new Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge, marking a significant milestone in the construction of the largest public infrastructure project in DDOT’s history.
Now that the arches are complete, construction will begin on the new bridge deck, where cars, bikes, and pedestrians will cross the Anacostia River when the new bridge is completed in late 2021. The new Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge is being constructed approximately 100 feet from the current bridge. The new design also includes two piers that will appear to float in the river and four pedestrian overlooks.
