Temporary Lane and Ramp Closures on I-395/I-695 

 

(Washington, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes and shoulders on the following roadways to perform construction activities along I-395 for sign structure replacements.

 

The following lane and shoulder closures will be in place from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM, during the week of Monday, June 22nd through Friday, June 26, 2020, weather permitting.

 

I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound              

  • Single left and shoulder between 12th Street Expressway and 4th Street SW
  • Single right lane and shoulder between the 9th Street Expressway and Center Leg Freeway

I-395/I-695 Southbound/Westbound

  • Single left lanes and shoulder between Center Leg Freeway and 9th Street Expressway
  • Single right lane and shoulder between Center Leg Freeway and 9th Street Expressway

Ramps

  • 9th Street Expressway Ramp to I-395 NB / I-695 EB – Signed detour will be in place for closure

The following lane and shoulder closures will be in place nightly from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM, during the week of Monday, June 22nd through Friday, June 26, 2020, weather permitting.

 

I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound              

  • Up to two left lanes and shoulder between 6th Street SW and Center Leg Freeway

I-395/I-695 Southbound/Westbound

  • Up to two left lanes and shoulder between Center Leg Freeway and the 9th Street Expressway

Ramps

  • 9th Street Expressway Ramp to I-395 NB / I-695 EB – Signed detour will be in place for closure

The following lane and shoulder closures will be in place continuously for three consecutive days during the week of Monday, June 22nd through Friday, June 26, 2020, weather permitting. (Note: This continuous closure may also be extended to the weekend of Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th, 2020.)

 

I-395/I-695 Northbound/Eastbound              

  • Single left lanes and shoulder between the 9th Street Expressway SW and Center Leg Freeway

Ramps

  • 9th Street Expressway Ramp to I-395 NB / I-695 EB – Signed detour will be in place for closure

Vehicles will be detoured for the ramp closures as indicated in the map below.  Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternate route, if possible.

These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT projects:

 

Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project

 

The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting between the 12th Street Expressway and D Street, SW.

 

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
