Traffic Pattern Change on New York Avenue NW on or about June 29, 2020

(Washington, D.C.) - The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) advises motorists to expect traffic pattern changes on New York Ave from First Street NW to Fourth Street NW starting on or about Monday, June 29, weather permitting.

This traffic pattern shift is necessary to begin the next phase of operations on the Safety Improvements on New Jersey Avenue NW project. The following changes will be in place and are further exhibited in the graphics below:

  • Traffic on New York Avenue NW between First Street NW and Fourth Street NW will be shifted to allow for the construction of the southernmost lanes of New York Avenue. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times in each direction.

Traffic controls will be in place to guide motorists through the work zone safely. Motorists should expect delays due to the lane closures, and are advised to stay alert and be observant of signage and road work crews while traveling in this area.

Curbside parking will continue to be restricted while work is underway between North Capitol Street NW and Fifth Street NW. Emergency No Parking signs will be posted a minimum of 72 hours before the start of construction. Sidewalk detours will also be in place while sidewalk repair is in progress. Signage and protective barriers will be used to maintain public safety.
