Lane Closures Continue on Blair Road, Cedar Street and 4th Street NW Through June 20, 2020

(Washington, DC) – The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will continue intermittent lane closures and weekend construction work on the Blair Road/Cedar Street/4th Street NW Intersection Improvement through Saturday, June 20, 2020, weather permitting. Construction activities will take place in the locations described below.

Beginning Saturday, June 13, 2020, safety improvement will begin on both the eastbound and westbound direction of Cedar Street from the Takoma Metro Station to 390 Cedar Street. Work includes replacement of driveway at 390 Cedar Street, installation of curb, gutter, and sidewalk as needed, as well as milling and paving.

Traffic signals at Cedar Street and Blair Road will be tested and energized. Thereafter, old traffic signals and poles will be removed.  Traffic Signals at Butternut Street and Blair Road will be in full operation tentatively Wednesday, June 17, 2020.

Construction will require intermittent closing of travel lanes on westbound and eastbound Cedar Street, as well as, northbound and southbound Blair Road. No parking will be allowed on Cedar Street from 390 Cedar Street to the Takoma Metro Station. Lane closures will take place between 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM on weekdays and between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM on Saturdays if requests for work on June 20, 2020 is received and permission is granted.

Both lanes on Blair Road and Cedar Street will also be closed intermittently during this same period for the removal traffic signals and street lights, as well as the installation of curb, gutter, sidewalk, and paving. Roadway users should expect short interruptions to two-way traffic.

Travel lanes will be tapered as necessary to allow for safe channelizing of traffic.  No lane closures other than short curtailments are anticipated.  Crosswalks will be closed, and pedestrians will be directed to crosswalks on the other side of the affected roadway. Temporary sidewalk closures and narrowing of sidewalks will be required on Cedar Street and Blair Road during this period for the construction of sidewalks, curbs and gutters.

Directional signs will be erected to direct travelers safely through the work zone. All users of the roadway are advised to stay alert while traveling through the corridor and to be observant of the work zones.

Once complete, the Blair Road/Cedar Street/4th Street Intersection Improvement Project will increase safety for all users of the roadway travelling through the corridor.
