Temporary Lane and Ramp Closures on I-395/I-695 Southbound and Westbound
(Washington, DC) — The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will temporarily close lanes and shoulders on the following roadways to perform construction activities along I-395 for sign structure replacements.
The following lane and shoulder closure will be in place on Saturday, May 9, from 8:00am to 5:00pm, weather permitting.
I-395/I-695 Southbound/Westbound
- Single right lane and shoulder between the 9th Street Expressway and the12th Street Expressway
- Single left lane and shoulder between the 9th Street Expressway and the12th Street Expressway
Ramps
- 9th Street Expressway Ramp to I-395 SB / I-695 EB – Signed detour will be in place for closure.
Vehicles will be detoured for the ramp closures as indicated in the map below. Notable delays should be expected around the project area and motorists are advised to use an alternative route, if possible.
These closures are required for construction activities associated with the following DDOT projects:
Interstate 395 Sign Structure Improvement Project
The Interstate 395 (I-395) Sign Structure project focuses on the replacement and repair of existing sign structures along the I-395 corridor. This includes the corridor-wide furnishing and installation of overhead traffic guide signs (sign mounting structures and panels), electrical systems, and lighting fixtures. There will also be the removal of existing overhead signs, sign structures, and electrical systems. The project will provide corridor wide improvements to the guide signing and lighting between the 12th Street Expressway and D Street, SW.
Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel in these areas, to anticipate moderate delays, and to be mindful of construction personnel.
