Mission:

The mission of the Mayor’s Office on African Affairs (MOAA) is to ensure that the full range of health, education, employment, social services, safety, business and economic development information, services and opportunities are accessible to the District’s African immigrant community. 

By serving as the liaison between the District’s African immigrant community, District government agencies, and the Mayor, MOAA aims to improve the quality of life of the District’s diverse African-born constituencies and their children, increase civic and public engagement in the District’s African immigrant community, and support community development.

The Executive Office of the Mayor is currently accepting applications for the Winter/Spring 2020 session for the Mayor's Leadership Engagement Achievement and Development ("L.E.A.D") program offering undergraduates, graduates, and recent graduates the chance to gain valuable work experience in one of our departments. Through agency assignments and weekly development workshops, interns will be able to enhance their skills and learn new skills suitable to working for a government entity. Opportunities are vast and have opened doors to careers in public policy, communications, finance, law, intergovernmental affairs, and government operations.

Executive Assistant

Office of the Deputy Mayor on Operations and Infrastructure

This position is located in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Operations and Infrastructure.  The incumbent serves as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Mayor responsible for assisting the Deputy Mayor with a wide range of administrative, programmatic and executive responsibilities.Acts as an intermediary for investigating critical and sensitive matters that may be of interest to the supervisor. Researches and analyzes problems or program/office issues, and administrative requirements. Based on operations and changing program/office requirements, identifies relevant issues for the supervisor. Advises the staff throughout the office on any management or policy changes that have not been otherwise communicated through formal changes.

Supervisory Case Manager

Department of Human Services

This position is located in the Department of Human Services (DHS), Family Services Administration.    The mission of the Family Services Administration is the promotion of family stability, economic self-sufficiency, and the wellbeing of children and adults through the provision of comprehensive social services.  The incumbent will serve as a Supervisory Case Manager in the Homeless Services- Families.  This position will be responsible for working with families who are applying for shelter, households participating in prevention programs and those placed via interim eligibility placement.

Program Support Assistant (Nutrition & Food)

Department of Parks and Recreation

This position is located in the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Nutrition and Food Services Division.  The Nutrition and Food Services Division administers, agency level, federal grant programs funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.  The primary responsibility is to provide a variety of administrative and program support, monitoring, and other administrative, technical and clerical assistance work which supports the supervisor in the conduct and attainment of program operations, goals and objectives, pertinent to the Nutrition and Food Services Program. The incumbent will perform an on-going review of administrative and clerical work being done to ensure that business needs are being met. In addition, the incumbent will identify unusual problem areas and makes appropriate recommendations for resolution.

Senior Advocate for Europe and North Africa

Refugees International

The Senior Advocate for Europe and North Africa is responsible for conducting field missions to North Africa and the Mediterranean, investigating migration and displacement issues in relevant Northern African countries, assessing areas of migration flows to Europe, and monitoring the asylum process in Europe. The Senior Advocate will draft field reports and policy positions addressing the situation of migrants and refugees in North Africa as well as the ongoing European migration crisis. Fluency in either French or Arabic (or both) is highly desirable.

Health Research Assistant

RAND Corporation

The Research Assistant will develop English/Spanish/Amharic language surveys, recruit participants for a study, administer  informed consent to caregivers and assent to youth, and collect and analyze data. The Assistant will also conduct interviews and develop educational messages and materials in English/Spanish/Amharic.  This position is for Bachelor's level applicants only. Spanish/Amharic proficiency is preferred.
