Litigating Emergency Preparedness

NDRN is proud to present a new virtual workshop on Litigating Emergency Preparedness in collaboration with Disability Rights Advocates (DRA)! Rebecca Williford, Managing Attorney at DRA, will share successes/challenges of using impact litigation and structured negotiations as a means of enforcing more equitable emergency management practices. Join us for a lively discussion around how Protection and Advocacy agencies can also utilize these legal strategies to protect disability rights before, during, and after disasters, fires, humanitarian crises and other emergencies.

Community Day Health and Wellness Fair
|
DC Health Link is partnering with DC HEALTH to promote healthy habits, share information and a wide variety of free resources such as Clothing, produce, training, and school supplies among DC residents in Wards 7 and 8.
The Community Day Health and Wellness Fair will include performances at the Main Stage by interfaith groups, Go-Go bands, poets, and dance troupes. Special guest speakers include Councilmember Trayon White, Archbishop George Stallings Jr, and Pastor Marlow Mitchell.
A DC Health Link certified assister will be on-site to provide in-person education and enrollment assistance to District consumers as well as answer questions and provide information about Medicaid options and financial help with plan premiums.

Join ODR and the Department of Behavioral Health in celebrating the 11th Annual Olmstead Community Integration Conference on August 23rd. This year's theme and focus is, "supporting community integration for justice-involved individuals".
This day-long event will include a diverse group of speakers discussing their own personal experiences of moving from an institute-based setting into the community. Multiple exhibitors with great resources will be available. The event is free and is intended for everyone.

Emergency Preparedness Resource Fair

On July 30th ODR partnered with the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency (HSEMA) in hosting an Emergency Preparedness Resource Fair. The event highlighted adaptive ways to administer CPR, volunteer opportunities, inclusive and accessible emergency preparedness guides, and tips for preparing resources for service animals as well!

Mission Statement
The mission of the District Office of Disability Rights (ODR) is to ensure that the programs, services, benefits, activities and facilities operated or funded by the District of Columbia are fully accessible to, and useable by people with disabilities. ODR is committed to inclusion, community-based services, and self-determination for people with disabilities. ODR is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the City's obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as other disability rights laws.
