Join Us June 27 to Get Tips on Rent Control Rules in the District

workshop

Upcoming Event: Let's Talk Rent Control: A Dialogue with DHCD

Rent control

The District’s rent control law sets limits on the amount and frequency of rent increases—and gives tenants the right to challenge them. But housing providers and tenants first need to know how the law operates, to include:

  • The seven types of increases
  • When increases are automatic versus approved “by petition"
  • The specific limitations on increases
  • The paperwork—and administrative process—required to oppose an increase
  • The penalties for invalid increases
  • The three “Cs”: rent ceilings, rent charged and rent concessions

A June 27 workshop by the Rental Accommodations Division (RAD) of the DC Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is solely focused on these and other rent control provisions. The goal: To help housing providers, as well as prospective and current tenants, understand these issues, and provide an opportunity to get their questions answered.

  • Date: Thursday, June 27, 2019
  • Time: 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Location: DHCD First Floor Conference Room, 1800 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE
