One City Summit Flyer

Dear DC Resident:

I invite all DC residents to join me on Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center for “One City Summit” – a frank and open conversation about what it means to be One City.

One City is not just a logo or a slogan. It is the recognition that all District residents, regardless of their differences, are bound together by a common destiny and a shared desire to make the city even better for the people who live here. Regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, ward or neighborhood, we all want a vibrant, sustainable city, where all residents have an opportunity to provide for themselves and their families, where every neighborhood is safe, where every student goes to a good school, where every tax dollar is spent wisely on a government that works, and where citizens’ voices really count. The One City Summit will offer District residents the chance to provide input on important decisions that will shape the city for years to come.

I encourage you to register for the summit today by going to www.onecitysummit.dc.gov or calling (202) 709-5132.  Don’t miss out on the opportunity to let your voice be heard.  I look forward to seeing you on February 11th.

Census Bureau Figures Indicate District Leading Nation in Population Growth

Latest estimates show D.C.’s population has grown by 2.7 percent since 2010 Census. According to the Census Bureau, the District’s population as of July 1 stood at 617,996 -- an increase of 16,273 new residents since April 1, 2010, when the 2010 Census count concluded. Census Bureau estimates of state population changes indicate that the District was the fastest-growing state in the country – the first time since the early 1940s that the District has led the nation in population growth by percentage of current population. This data confirms that thousands of new residents, not only investors, are choosing to move to the District of Columbia. Read more.
