Letter from the Mayor

Dear Washingtonians,

Since coming into office four and half years ago, my team and I have been focused on creating new housing opportunities for Washingtonians across the income spectrum. We know that when residents have access to safe and affordable homes, they are better able to succeed in other areas of their life. We also know that by supporting residents in becoming homeowners, we can help families build wealth and access all the other benefits of homeownership.

With that in mind, we have worked diligently across District agencies and with our nonprofit and private sector partners to create and build not just more housing, but also programs that make housing more affordable for families, seniors, DC Government employees, and longtime residents. We have expanded existing homeownership programs to ensure they are doing more to keep up with rising housing costs and created new programs like the one for DC Government employees that I announced on Monday. Now, as we continue making big investments in affordable housing and working toward our ambitious goal of building 36,000 new homes over the next six years, we will continue to create and connect residents to the programs they need to get a fair shot in Washington, DC.

This Saturday, I hope you will join us at the 11th Annual DC Housing Expo and Home Show at the Convention Center. The Housing Expo and Home Show is an opportunity to learn more about all the programs we have available and to get your housing questions answered by experts.

Learn more about the expo HERE.

Sincerely,

Muriel Bowser
