ReadyDC Website Gets A New Look

In September 2017, the Executive Office of the Mayor launched ReadyDC, the District's personal preparedness campaign. This public education campaign ensures the District is prepared to meet a variety of hazards including manmade and natural disasters.

In February 2019, the ReadyDC website was redesigned for you! The updated website provides a fresh, new look and access to critical information at your fingerprints.

The ReadyDC website also offers printable resources in the District's six languages: Amharic, Chinese, French, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Securing Our Communities: Virtual Kidnapping

Virtual kidnapping is a phone scam where the perpetrator researches their victims to convince them their loved ones have been kidnapped. A ransom is demanded for their safe return but the kidnapping never took place. To learn more about how you can protect yourself from similar scams, click here


Community Preparedness

Business Emergency Management Operations Center (BEMOC)

According to FEMA, approximately 40% of businesses never recover after a disaster. Through HSEMA's Business Emergency Management Operations Center, DC government is building the resilience needed to ensure our neighborhoods can recover quickly. BEMOC membership is free and open to businesses located in, or doing business in, the District of Columbia. Sign up here.

Interfaith Preparedness and Advisory Group (IPAG)

The Interfaith Preparedness and Advisory Group is a new joint effort between the Mayor's Office of Religious Affairs, the Metropolitan Police Department and the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency to encourage dialogue with the District's faith-based organizations to enhance preparedness for all types of hazards. Seeking Leaders for National Youth Preparedness Council

The Youth Preparedness Council brings teens together from across the US who are interested and engaged in community preparedness. Students in 8th through 11th grade are eligible to apply. Applications are due by March 31, 2019. Click here to learn more.
