Dear Washingtonians,
Mark your calendars: The annual Budget Engagement Forums are just around the corner.
We have many important and tough decisions ahead of us as we prepare the District's Fiscal Year 2020 budget. These forums are an opportunity for me to hear directly from DC residents about your spending priorities. I, along with directors and deputy mayors, will be at every forum—listening and gathering your feedback.
Forum 1: Thursday, February 21, at 6:30 p.m. | Arthur Capper Community Center (1001 5th Street, SE)
Forum 2: Saturday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m. | Deanwood Recreation Center (1350 49th Street, NE)
Forum 3: Monday, February 25, at 6:30 p.m. | Roosevelt High School (4301 13th Street, NW)
Whether you come to a forum just to learn about the budget process or because you have a fresh idea for how DC Government can give more people a fair shot, I hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
In the Fiscal Year 2019 budget, Mayor Bowser created the Early Learning Tax Credit. By providing DC families with up to $1,000 per eligible child, this tax credit makes child care more affordable.

This week, during Fair Shot February, Mayor Bowser launched the READY (Resources to Empower and Develop You) Center—a one-stop shop where formerly incarcerated District residents can access critical post-release services such as housing and employment assistance as well as educational and health care supports and opportunities. Returning citizens can also obtain vital documents and get connected to programs for substance use disorder and mental health aftercare.
The READY Center is a collaboration between the Mayor’s Office on Returning Citizen Affairs, the Department of Corrections, the Department of Behavioral Health, the Department of Human Services, the Department of Employment Services, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and community-based organizations. All partners work collectively to ensure successful reintegration into the community for returning citizens.
