A Home for the Holidays DC 2018 - A Progress Update

Header 2018

Dear Partner,

On November 15, DHS launched its annual "A Home for the Holidays" Campaign, increasing last year’s goal of exiting 400 families and individuals out of homelessness - to 450 and successfully transitioning these households into permanent homes of their own. Last year we exceeded our goal and placed 422 households, so we are confident that with your help, we'll reach the goal of 450.

To help us reach our placement goal, we have partnered with the Apartment and Office Building Association (AOBA) and have asked District landlords to provide available and affordable units. We're also asking for the local community to donate new or gently used houseware and children's toys to help families transform their units into homes. Your rapid response to that call for help continues to foster the elimination of long-term homelessness in the District of Columbia.

As we approach week three of the Campaign, we are happy to share with you that 126 families and individuals that were experiencing homelessness, are the recipients of your tremendous generosity and have secured stable housing.

One of those families, Eric McCray, Stephanie Hill and their three sons, who recently shared their story with DHS, local news station WUSA 9 and radio station WAMU, have also helped to spread the word about these efforts and how landlords may participate in the program. Progress updates for the Home for the Holidays campaign are available through a real-time dashboard, which details housing placements for families and individuals.
