The Mayor’s Office on Veterans Affairs ("MOVA") is launching a pilot transportation program for District of Columbia veterans with the Department of For-Hire Vehicles. Program eligibility is restricted to veteran residents of Washington DC with an annual income of less than $30,000. Documentation evidencing eligibility may be requested by MOVA. The purpose of this program is to ensure that this population has access to the medical, educational, employment and other opportunities that they require.

Program participants may only use Program rides for the following:

  • Employment opportunities: limited to job interviews, job fairs, recruitment events, and other similar opportunities, and does not include commuting to and from work
  • Educational opportunities: limited to college courses, college prep courses, GED courses, apprenticeship programs, and other professional licensure courses
  • Medical treatment and/or similar appointments

To register for VetsRide, a veteran must sign-up in person at the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs Ensure you bring proof of DC residency, DD-214, NGB-22, or VA Card, and a statement of your annual income.  All veterans must also have a current DCNetwork account, which can be created or updated at the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs.

Woman-Veteran-Owned Small Business Stakeholder Meeting

Did you know that Washington, D.C. is home to the 2nd highest concentration of women veterans per capita? 

To celebrate the women that have served in our nations armed forces, the Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs is proud to partner with the Women's Business Center to host our first Woman-Veteran-Owned Small Business Stakeholder Meeting.  

MOVA understands that Entrepreneurship is a viable career path for women veterans of all eras, and every stage of life! In order to successfully launch and scale a company, it is critical for individuals to have access to the right tools, expertise and resources.

Washington, DC boasts a plethora of services that ensures all DC based business owners and entrepreneurs have all the necessary tools for success, many of which are absolutely free!

If you dream of owning your own business or taking your business to the next level, make plans to join MOVA at the Veteran Business Stakeholder Event. Learn and ask questions about how to make the changes necessary to fulfill your entrepreneurial goals and how to navigate the obstacles involved.

 Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with specialists surrounding the following topics:

  • New Fiscal Year: DC Government Contracting Success
  • Enter or advance business operations in the federal marketplace
  • Obtaining funding/capital through innovative financing

Women Veterans Roundtable: Voices of Victory

On Thursday, October 18th, make plans to join MOVA as we celebrate the service of Women Veterans!

MOVA welcomes all women that have served in the U.S. Armed Forces to attend the Women Veteran Roundtable: Voices of Victory event. Attendees will have the opportunity to network and engage in solution-based discussions around the topics of life after the military, sisterhood and service. MOVA strives to foster a positive atmosphere for women veterans to establish connections that will allow each attendee to live a successful post-military life.

Attendees will also receive a photo headshot to use for social media marketing (LinkedIn style photos) courtesy of Ms. Meghan Homa, Photographer, Military & Veteran Advocate, Visual Storyteller.

Do you need help filing your VA Disability Claim?  If you answered yes - we have the help you need!  The Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs will be hosting a Department Service Officer every week to assist D.C. Veterans obtain the benefits they have earned as a result of their service.

D.C. Vocational Rehabilitation For Disabled Veterans

The District of Columbia Department of Disability Services has partnered with the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs to provide dedicated vocational rehabilitation assistance to our veteran community. This program is separate and apart from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' vocational rehabilitation program.  If you have been denied or are currently using the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' program, you may still be eligible for District assistance.  Come speak with one of our counselors!

In an effort to commemorate and honor “Veterans Day” the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES) veterans program in partnership with the DC National Guard and Employ Prince George's (EPG) is hosting and facilitating, the 2nd annual “Veterans Appreciation Employment Expo”. This venue’s purpose is to assemble selected veteran friendly employers, apprenticeship programs, training providers, veteran service organizations and HVRP Grantees and give them an opportunity to showcase their respective organizations job vacancies, programs, services and resources to our veteran population in one central location.
